Cancer is life-changing

Cancer affects every part of who we are — our bodies, minds, relationships, and spirits- which is not surprising seeing as that is fully who we are.

Through more than 20 years of working with people affected by cancer, particularly breast cancer, I’ve seen how many feel their bodies have let them down, often carrying anger, disappointment, and a loss of confidence.

Treatment and surgery can change how we move and how we hold our bodies, creating new patterns that become “normal” — even when they no longer serve us.

Stress and anxiety also quietly alter our breathing, making it shallower and less efficient, which can increase the body’s stress response and leave even everyday activities feeling exhausting.
“That we breath is a matter of life and death. How we breath is a matter of sickness or health” - Author Unknown
This workshop is about reconnecting with our bodies and our breathing towards healing and lasting wellbeing. How we breath affects every cell and system in our bodies, our minds and our emotions. How we move affects how well we’re able to breath as well as the flow of energy in our bodies.

Our workshop is in two parts:
BREATHING
An introduction to the science of breathing well, both the “why’s” and the “how’s”. We’ll explore how each of us is breathing now and learn some strategies to restore the breathing pattern that optimises your health both physically and emotionally.

Jen Blenkinsop, an occupational therapist with over 35 years of experience on 3 continents, will lead with part of the workshop. She works in the areas of oncology rehabilitation, lymphoedema management, breathing retraining, interdisciplinary pain management, and hand/upper limb rehabilitation. She is also the founder of Naturally Grounded, a business focused on thriving and wellbeing, especially in nature.

TAI CHI
Tai chi is an ancient martial art. In this introduction and context we are working with the healing aspects of Tai Chi and Qigong as a gentle, low impact exercise that rebuilds strength without strain. The slow, flowing movements help reduce fatigue and improve mobility, while restoring the flow of energy. We work to reconnect with sensations of our bodies in movement. Some have called it a “Meditation in Motion”. Each participant will work to their own ability and what their bodies will allow.
Nayashen Naidoo is a dedicated internationally trained Tai Chi teacher. who blends traditional wisdom with modern, compassionate practice. With two decades of Tai Chi experience, his teaching emphasizes mindful movement, breath awareness, and nervous system regulation. Nayashen is the Vice Chair of Tai Chi South Africa, and serves as a Head Judge for South African National Tai Chi Tournament
Rebuild confidence in your body and optimise it’s phenomenal ability to restore itself.
